Description
The Ohio Campus Coalition for Advocates and Preventionists (OCCAP) is a community of practice for advocates and preventionists working on college and university campuses across the state. This is a space for direct service staff such as college/university-employed staff, nonprofit-employed staff, and volunteers who work directly with survivors and/or violence prevention programming on college/university campuses.
In our October meeting, we’ll be joined by Radhika Sharma-Gordon, Manager of Outreach and Education at Apna Ghar. Apna Ghar, located in Chicago, provides critical, comprehensive, culturally competent services, and conducts outreach and advocacy across communities to end gender violence (ApnaGhar.org/what-we-do.html). Radhika will present on the ways that campuses and community organizations can better serve the needs of international and immigrant students through response, outreach, and prevention education. Radhika will also discuss Apna Ghar’s outreach efforts with local campuses and explore how data and campus climate surveys have shaped their work. OCCAP members will have the opportunity to learn about innovative and culturally responsive strategies they can bring back to their campus communities.
The final 30 minutes of the meeting will be space to connect with campus advocates and preventionists across the state.
